The NationsBenefits Basket Adjudication Service (BAS) was designed for the unique financial challenges presented by supplemental benefits.

  • BAS is a software technology that integrates with all major point-of-sales devices to allow retailers to process transactions for the Flex Card.
  • Members will have a standard PIN-less debit card checkout experience using the Flex Card that allows them to use benefits at their favorite participating retailers.
  • BAS integrates with the Mastercard open-loop ISO 8583 network for all payment processing.

Member Retail Experience

The member presents their NationsBenefits Benefits Mastercard® Prepaid Card at the payment tender.

Nearly instantaneously, BAS will perform multiple operations necessary to support the transaction:
  • Member identification.
  • Basket evaluation of the products the member is attempting to purchase.
  • Determines eligibility of the products for purchase based on the members benefits.
  • Presentation of approved and unapproved products.
  • Adjudication of member benefits to the approved products.

The member will then make their choice to approve or decline the transaction based on the determination made by BAS.

Once approved, the member will be able to complete the transaction, including providing funding using alternate tender for any uncovered amounts.

The pre-requisite requirements for implementing BAS into your retail experience:
  • Accept Mastercard debit cards and support PIN-less debit transactions.
  • The merchant must be willing and able to extend their POS processing to incorporate an API call to the NB APIs as part of the tender process and make a final call to NB after the tender is completed.
  • The merchant must be willing to provide ongoing updates to maintain the APL and merchant location records.
